A walk to stop hunger

June 4: Thousands of people walked through the streets in Denmark to help raise funds for the World Food Programme’s school feeding programme in Bhutan.

The walk was organized as part of World Food Programme’s campaign, fight hunger, walk the world. The people who participated in the walk wore T-shirts with the words, stop hunger, inscribed on them.

The walk was organized in eight cities in Denmark.

The World Food Programme’s country director, Mr. Leo van der Velden said the money raised through the campaign will be used to encourage children especially in rural areas to go to school.

WFP assistance to the school-feeding programme supports the government’s efforts to improve access to education, particularly for children from rural, remote, and food insecure areas.

Also as part of the programme, a famous chef in Copenhagen cooked Bhutanese dishes for the participants.

The Bhutanese Friendship Association in Denmark also organized an exhibition on Bhutan.

The event in Denmark was organized by the WFP office in Copenhagen, together with its main sponsor TNT.
