Symposium on National Planning begins

April 3: A three day symposium on National Planning began yesterday in the capital.

The Prime Minister Lyonpo Kinzang Dorji, the Deputy Minister of Environment Dasho Nado Rinchen, other senior government officials, and UNDP and JICA officials attended the opening.

Speaking at the opening, the Prime Minister Lyonpo Kinzang Dorji said all the plans and policies should be aimed towards building a firm foundation for a vibrant democracy and promoting socio economic development.

The Secretary of GNH Commission, Karma Tshiteem, said the 10th five year will be launched amidst numerous changes taking place in the country.

Therefore, he said, it is important for people involved in planning to come together and discuss all the elements to make the 10th plan successful. This, he said, will provide a solid base for the democratic reforms.

Planning officers and officials from the policy and planning divisions of the ministries, agencies, dzongkhags and gewogs are attending the symposium.

The symposium is funded by JICA and UNDP.
