April 11: For the first time, Bhutan will participate in an international beauty pageant. Works are in process to crown the first Miss Bhutan who will represent Bhutanese women at the Miss Earth Beauty Pageant 2008.
According to the organizer of the Miss Bhutan beauty pageant, Karma Tshering, registration of the participants starts on April 17.
Karma Tshering, a private film producer said he has always wanted to organize a beauty pageant. He said he started preparing for the beauty pageant after his proposal was approved by the government.
Interested women between 17 and 28 years are eligible to participate. The grand finale of the Miss Bhutan beauty pageant will conclude with the crowning of Miss Bhutan in June.
He said Miss Bhutan beauty pageant will not have the skimpy costumes round. Both traditional and innovative dress will be used at the beauty pageant.
