Changbangdu residents still wait for road

Residents of Changbangdu in Thimphu are still waiting for the road which the Thimphu City Corporation has promised them few years ago.

Changbangdu village is situated on a hill overlooking the Thimphu valley. With 50 households, the village is home to hundreds of people.

In contrast to the hustle and bustle of the main town, Changbangdu is serene and peaceful. However the tranquility of the area belies the frustration of the people who say they are facing immense problems for want of a road.

Changbangdu is about 20 minutes walk from the road point. In 2002, the village came under the Thimphu City Corporation. Residents said the City Corporation has promised to construct a road for them. But this has not happened so far.

The Urban Planner of the City Corporation, Sonam Tshewang said they couldn’t begin the road construction because the Changbangdu local area plan was not finalized. He said the demarcation of land has now been completed, the local area plan is ready and they will start the construction soon.
