Bhutan Telecom launched 3G, GPRS and EDGE services yesterday. The technology will allow network operators to offer a wider range of more advanced services.
The service was launched by the Information and Communications Minister Lyonpo Nandalal Rai.
B-mobile subscribers will be able to send pictures and video footage, talk face to face through video call and check emails using mobile phones.
Launching the service, the Information and Communications Minister Lyonpo Nandalal Rai made a video call to the works and Human Settlement Minister Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba.
To avail the service, subscriber should have a mobile phone which supports the service. B-mobile subscribers can avail the service after paying Nu. 400. New subscriber will have to pay Nu. 500. The monthly fees range from Nu. 200 to Nu. 5,000.
The Managing Director of the Bhutan Telecom, Thinley Dorji said the launch of 3G service will revolutionize the ICT sector.
The Information and Communications Minister, Lyonpo Nandalal Rai said the launch of 3G service will change our life.
Telecom officials also gave a live demonstration of the service. Senior government officials, representatives from Sony Ericsson from Sweden, board members of Bhutan Telecom, representatives from DHI and BICMA also attend the inaugural ceremony.
